I don’t know about you, but I really don’t remember the last time someone around MY house clapped when I came down the stairs and said “Great job scrubbing that toilet!! I’m SO proud of you!!” Sure, it’s my job around the house, but still, it would be nice!

So What Has This Got to do With Cleaning The Toilet?

Yet one of the BEST things about being in network marketing IS the recognition. Yes, it may be your “job” to sell, to recruit, etc. but you can be recognized for doing it well. And the fact of the matter is, most of us don’t get recognized in our normal day to day life. Whether it’s in our “regular job” or our home life, recognition is often overlooked.

Yet…how GOOD does it feel when someone acknowledges your efforts?!? It feels GREAT! When you’re recognized, you can’t help but to smile (even if you feel a little embarrassed). You can’t help but to get a warm feeling in your heart. You can’t help but to feel good about yourself.

The recognition doesn’t always have to be grand. Sure, being on stage can be cool. But so can seeing your name in a newsletter. It can be cool to get a chocolate bar wrapped in a pretty ribbon at a team meeting. It can even feel great to be called up in front of everyone and have them cheer you on as you get a great big hug. Here’s a few ideas for team recognition that can make an impact without breaking your bank:


Great Ideas – Sometimes people don’t always have the big sales or recruiting numbers…but they still contribute some GREAT ideas to the team! Recognize them! Not only does the recognition feel good, but you’ll find MORE great ideas coming in each month. Send a nice certificate – with a box of energy saver bulbs!

Top Team Awards – Your company may have top awards for sales and recruiting, but your team likes to know where THEY fit in to THEIR team. It feels good to be able to say they were #3 in THEIR team for the month of July. Each month, award the Top Team Sales Rep and the Top Recruiter. List them in a monthly newsletter that goes out to the entire team. Team members LOVE seeing their name in print. If you have in person meetings, give Payday (enjoy your payday!), 100Grand (you’re worth $100 Grand!), and Starbursts (You’re a Star Recruiter) wrapped with a ribbon for being tops in the team.

Sales Ribbons – Team members love to show off their ribbons! You can order incentive ribbons pre-made for a good price. Try going in with another leader to share costs. Give ribbons for $1000, $2000, $5000 and $10,000 in sales in a month (or whatever is a good rate for you and your company). And don’t forget to recognize them in the team newsletter!
Spotlight Team Member – If you have a team newsletter, pick a team member that has done particularly well and highlight them in a spotlight. Do an interview, and include a picture of them and their family. Make sure to tell the team what YOU think is SPECIAL about this team member, and why you picked them. If possible, get some quotes from other team members on what they recognize as special about this team member. Send your spotlight member a small gift-card as a token for the Spotlight feature.

You have no idea how many people stay in network marketing for the recognition. It’s a need that many people don’t even know they have…until it’s met. Because they’ve never had it before, it becomes addicting and inspires them to want to do so much more to continue to gain more recognition. For the reason that it feels so good, they don’t want to give it up. It would be too much of a loss.

So if you are a leader, look for ANY way that you can recognize the members of your team. You don’t have to have a big budget. Remember that the gestures don’t have to be grand. They just have to be very heart felt, appropriate, and consistent. A little recognition goes a very long way.

4 Things to Teach Your Future Leaders

One of the biggest mistakes a leader can make is not giving their up and coming leaders enough opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities. Sometimes it’s from a feeling of not wanting to “give something up”. Sometimes it’s from not wanting to take the time to do some training. Whatever the reason, it’s bad for both the current and upcoming leaders. Here are a few ways that leaders can teach and encourage new leaders to lead…..

1.

Meetings – Have new leaders take on small roles at team meetings, and then gradually take on larger roles. In the beginning, it may be participating in a role play. Gradually they can work up to conducting a training session.

2.

Team Calls – As you are making coaching or team calls, start by having your new leaders listen in. When they feel comfortable, have them host the call, and you listen in. Eventually they can take over their own team calls.

3.

Newsletters – If you create team newsletters to recognize your team and their accomplishments, allow your new leaders contribute by writing featured articles. It’s a great way to build their credibility and confidence while having their name recognized and exposed to the team.

4.

Conflict – This is one of the challenging areas when it comes to training. When there is conflict within a team, it is hard for a new team leader to know how to handle it while making both sides happy. Offer to be on a call with all the parties involved. Hear all sides. Then let everyone know they need to think about it and you’ll have another call tomorrow. Call your new leader and ask how THEY would handle the situation based on the call. Run through different scenarios and give your insights based on experience. If comfortable, let him/her handle the conflict resolution call, with you listening in.

Each opportunity that you give your leaders to lead increases their confidence and abilities. Once they are leading their team, it gives you the opportunity to develop a new leader. Never be afraid of handing over the reins to a new leader…it’s good for both of you!

How To Drop Your Business Into A Normal Conversation

I find that one of the hardest things networks marketers struggle with most is talking about their business. There’s the perception out there that Network Marketers are the types of people that will ONLY talk to you about their product/service/opportunity. That may be true of some people! But this perception has scared many network marketers out of talking about their business at all. They don’t want to be seen as “that person”.

A great strategy in growing your Network Marketing business is learning how to “slip in” your business during ordinary conversations. The idea is not to be “tricky” about it, but to develop a natural conversation that can lead to you talking to someone more about your business. The idea is to make THEM ask YOU more about it! It makes you feel better when you dangle a little something out there…a teaser…and someone says, “what is your business then?” or “tell me more?”. Having permission feels great!!  Don’t you think ……

So, how do you slip in your business into an ordinary conversation? You look for opportunities to talk to people…usually people you don’t know…to bring up a teaser about your business and have them ask more.

Here are a few examples of what I mean:

You’re at the office supply store getting business supplies and the woman in front of you has something unique. You say, “Where did you find that, that would be awesome for my business!” She will usually tell you and then say “what is your business”. Trust me…I’ve done it MANY times! Make sure you have a brochure or business card handy to give once you tell her!

You’re at the coffee shop and strike up a conversation with someone about the weather and say, “I’m just so glad to get out of the house! I’ve been working at home for 3 days straight and just need a BREAK! I think I’ll drink this out in the sunshine and soak it in before I hit the computer/phones again”. Again…you WILL get asked what you do at home…. Time to share!!  Or if you work offline, have that coffee and say “Ok well, I suppose I better get back on the road again !”  They are bound to ask where you are going and what for !  That is your cue then to answer about what you are doing …..

If you have traveled for your business lately for a convention or training of any kind, make SURE you slip that into a conversation with a clerk or someone in line at the store or even beside you as you are looking at clothes. Something like, “oh, I wish I would have had that on my business trip to The Big Apple!!” It gets a conversation going about where you went, and then WHY.

While not QUITE the same, try this as well. If you are at the park or a playground of a fast food restaurant with your kids, see who’s sitting there looking bored. At the BEGINNING of your visit (because you want to leave time for conversation) just walk over and say, “I know what it’s like just sitting here for a while! I thought I’d give you a catalogue to look at while you’re here! You’re welcome to keep it if you’d like!” It’s a great way to get your products catalogue in the hands of someone…and invite further conversation while you are there with your kids. Once they ask you a question, it leads to more questions. People are naturally curious. ESPECIALLY about people who a) have their own businesses b) work from home c) travel for their business and d) seem to ENJOY what they do.

If you have a positive attitude about your business, people will be curious and the conversation becomes them asking you more. What a great way for you to tell them more!

So don’t be afraid to be “that” MLM person. Just be friendly and personable. Let the opportunity to talk about your business come in to your conversation (plant the seed!) and when someone asks, be willing to tell them more!  Practice makes perfect and in the end you will wonder why you were always scared to bring up the subject of your business ……

6 Tips For Success in a Small Business

Below are 6 Tips on How To Be Successful in a Small Business

These days there are so many small businesses that are closing down which quite possibly could have been saved by doing things differently.

In this world of internet and technology things are all changing. People are changing their habits in how they shop today. When you think about it the internet has really changed the way that people shop and buy today. A few years ago you never heard of buying your groceries online and getting them delivered and people are using the internet these days to buy just about anything that they need. As with online marketers and entrepreneurs we need to keep up with all the changes in the way we market and want our online business to be a success.

If you don’t keep up with the changes in your marketing skills you could quite easily become another statistic on the failure list.

If you want to make 2017 your best ever year then below are a few tips that I would like to share with you to make your small business a success.

1. What Worked and Didn’t Work in 2016

Sit down and make a list of what worked and what didn’t work for you this year. You may possibly find that you have a larger negative list than a positive list. If you don’t study then history is going to repeat itself. Maybe you could have done more marketing or perhaps you weren’t targeting the right market. Maybe your timing wasn’t right. Check out what advertising strategies worked best for you and then try and improve them.

2. You Need a Marketing Plan

Yes I know what you are thinking ‘I have heard it all before’ – maybe you think you don’t have the time to sit and write out a couple of pages of plans, or perhaps you don’t know how to but believe me you need this plan. Make a list of where you are at right at this moment plus what you are earning (if anything!).

Make a list of your new and old customers. Write down the number of hours you are working then set yourself some goals of where you want to be in 1 year, 5 years or 10 years even. Set yourself just three strategies that you want to use to achieve those goals. It could be social media, email marketing, attraction marketing, doing webinars or perhaps you prefer to work offline, but once you have picked the three to use then implement them and just stick to the three. Write down what you want to achieve and improve on a monthly basis.

3. Find a Good Mentor

When I started online marketing about 14 years ago I was on my own and I never got any advice from anyone and that is one thing you don’t want. Find a good mentor and leader and don’t be afraid to ask for advice and if you follow what they tell you then you can’t go wrong. Make sure it is someone that has been in the same position as you are in and that is now successful. If you have the funds it is always a good idea to pay for a coach or consultant. You will be saving yourself a lot of time and money in the long run.

4. Focus on Helping Others

If you are running your business just to be making money then you could run in to big problems, especially if you are just pitching your products that you want to sell. You need to first focus on your customers and potential customers to find out what their needs are and their problems and goals if they have any and then just focus on how you can help them achieve these things. If you can help others reach their goals then you will automatically reach your own goals.

5. Keep Your Website Updated

It does not have to be costly to buy and host a domain and by having a website of your own is the most effective way for marketing your business today. As you will have noticed there is a lot of competition out there so you don’t want to throw together just any basic website. Make sure you have a great design and if you can, blog daily. It doesn’t just have to be about what you are selling as people don’t want to read about the same thing every day. You can blog about your personal life and family to show that you are a real person or perhaps something that is interesting on the news. As long as you are giving value content on what people want to know that is going to help them then you are well on your way to driving traffic to your site.

6. Make Time For Friends and Family

Don’t try and do everything yourself at once as all work and no play ‘makes Jack a dull boy!’ . I learnt the hard way !! Once you are earning an income from your business perhaps you could think about out-sourcing if you find that you are not having the time to blog daily. You will find some sites that are offering to write articles for you and you can find them as cheap as $5 if you search around. But obviously you only get what you pay for. But most of all make sure you HAVE A LIFE as well as a business otherwise you will just get overwhelmed and burn yourself out.

So LEARN === TAKE ACTION === GET RESULTS !! – AND make time for family and friends and do something you enjoy doing outside of work while making your small business a success.

How to Convert Prospects to Customers
I am sure you have come across those prospects who just flatly refuse to believe in what you have to tell them and they want to contradict everything you say. Well here is something that might get them to see your side of things and agree with your point of view.

 

Don’t Keep on Pushing Them or You Will Push Them Away !

 

You need to learn very early on in network marketing how to answer objections …

Only one problem ….. even the right, accurate answer still may not always get you what you want but you have at least tried.

Some people think that network marketing is a pyramid scam, or only the people at the top seem to be earning the money – some think that MLM’s are illegal businesses or only people who already have big networks in place can get rich. By just simply telling them the opposite thing may not work at all and you have have won the argument but you are likely to lose the customer.

Do you like to be wrong? No of course you don’t and nobody likes to be proven wrong so when you push, they are going to push evenharder back at you and the harder you push to try and change their minds the harder they are going to try to entrench themselves in their opinion. They are more than likely going to say “I know that I am right because I have met people who have lost a lot of money doing this MLM work” !!

Now if they believe they are right and you can’t get them to change their mind, are you going to just give up? No you are not. You can use the power of appreciation to get them to see your point of view …..

Listen to What They Have to Say

One of the first steps in appreciation is to find out where your prospect is coming from and listen to their side of the story. Stop making statements and just ask them more questions. The questions don’t even have to be work related. Find out a bit more about your prospect and about their family if they are prepared to talk about them.

Now they are probably going to say to you that your business is just a pyramid scam. So then you can ask them “what do you mean by a pyramid scam and why do you say that my business is a pyramid scam”?

Don’t be defensive when you ask them these questions. You want them to understand that you are curious as to why they think like that. You need to sincerely understand their side of the story by saying things like “How do you mean?” or “Help me to understand what you mean”. Or maybe ask them “What makes you say that?” – all these questions are meant to probe your prospects emotions. By doing this they are likely to start relaxing and putting their guard down ….

When you ask someone to clarify their statement, they sometimes may see by their own admission that their opinion was unfounded or inaccurate – for example they may that it is shaped like a pyramid so they thought it was a pyramid scheme – then is you are lucky they might even decide to correct themselves all on their own without your help !!

If this doesn’t happen you are at least a step closer to an agreement.

Always, Always Appreciate their Point of View

The key trigger here for this kind of approach requires as much sincerity as when you were listening – so simply acknowledge their point of view. This isn’t to say that you agree with them ! It just means you see their side of it even if you don’t share it. So spoken truthfully by saying “I understand how you feel” is a very powerful statement. It means that you have understood them and that their side made sense. By doing this, people will feel that you have respected their opinion and that in return invites them to respect yours.

You could go a step further by saying that if you were in their shoes, you would probably feel the same way. You could say “I do understand how you feel. You spent $1,000 into an MLM and you didn’t manage to make your money back. To lose that sort of money in any business is rough and if it happened to me I would probably feel the same way and would not give network marketing another chance”

Once again, let the signal be clear – that you sincerely understand their side of things. Once they see that it is easier for the two of you to agree on something.

You Have to Get Them To Appreciate You

You can now move on with stating your side of the story. You need to get them to see the merit of your point of view. One often used method is the 3 F’s. Feel, Felt and Found method.

“I fully understand how you feel. I once thought that I was terrible at sales and not in a million years did I think I would be able to answer a sing question that any customer threw at me, but I found that the company trains its downline impeccably. I wasn’t even allowed to do a presentation until they thought I was ready. They also teach that it is not about the selling of products, it is finding out how you can help others with those products”.

or

“I get what you are saying. I also thought the same when I started out on my networking journey. I thought that only the people above me would get rich and that I would lose my investment. Then I realised they were personally interested in my development and were willing to help on a one to one basis to be my business up and running. I was taught everything I needed to know to be successful. If you put in the work you can be successful. I am grateful to all my upline who have helped me in this way”

So now because you didn’t undermine what your prospect said, they will find it easier to appreciate what you say and mutual appreciation is going to open the door to agreement. This is one of the most efficient ways to close a prospect.
